Where there's a will, there's a way

I found this photojournal essay on Brazilian boxers by Nacho Doce on the Stumptuous website and was really impressed. These people have very little money or resources yet manage to set up gyms in parking lots under freeway bridges. Rocks, old refrigerators, tires, rope, etc. make for inexpensive yet effective work out tools. I am always impressed by the mentality that says,  'just get it done'. Rather than cursing the darkness, these guys lit a match. Good stuff.

Drive Nice

Found this on Copenhagenize and thought it summed up my sentiments exactly after seeing some "devoted followers" in cars this week. Took the trail today to meet a friend to walk at a local park for an hour then cycled home. Great way to start a productive day!

Wonderful Day on My Bike

Rode my bike into town tonight to Walt's for a bike repair night at the awesome Bicycle Mechanics College. Big shout out to Gina and Mike for organizing and carrying out this useful and fun event! Big thanks to Steve W. for his patience with all my struggles as I get me some mad bike repair skillz! Peddled home after dark--nothing like night riding with NEW BRAKES!

Slow Down & Enjoy the Ride

I found this video over at Copenhagenize.com. It is a video produced by the Western Australia Enjoy the Ride campaign. While I would have loved to see bicycles in this advert, the message is an important one. It reminds me of a book I read by Carl Honore, In Praise of Slowness, a few years ago. If you haven't read it, you should!

Results of the exportation of the Western diet

I came across this video over at Healthy Girl's Kitchen and was astounded. I had never seen this CBS story on Nauru but it is an eye-opener; both sad and a serious warning bell for the U.S. where our type II diabetes rates are estimated to grow to 1:3 in the next forty years. Food for thought.
